Charities & Outreach

Oxfordshire Mind

For the past 2 years, OULC has been fundraising for Oxfordshire Mind. We've currently raised over £2,500 for this wonderful charity and we look forward to supporting their work again for the upcoming year.

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in any one year. Oxfordshire Mind helps over 20,000 people with mental health challenges every year. They promote good mental health through the provision of high quality services and campaigning for positive change.

A statistic that really stood out to us when deciding what our fundraising target should be was that, between 2003 and 2013, there was an average of 1270 patient suicides per year over the period (i.e. where the person concerned had been in contact with mental health services in the 12 months prior to their death) (MHN, March 2016).

Over Christmas, each branch of the club raised money for Mind by participating in a number of fitness and lacrosse challenges.

  • Men's: Running 1270km as a club over the holidays, as well as doing 1270 touches of wall ball each per week.

  • Women's: Points allocated per training session (cardio fitness, strength & conditioning, stick skills), aiming to reach 1270 points overall.

  • Mixed: Running 1270km as a squad over the Christmas holidays.

This Easter, OULC undertook the challenge of cycling/running the distance from Land's End to John O'Groats; a massive 2,155km. And we completed in only 7 days, all thanks to a huge effort from all branches of the club. For more details about this please see the highlight one our Instagram.

OUWLC and OUMLC also took part in a run-a-thon against their respective Cambridge counterparts. The women's team ran a whopping 1500km in just 7 days bringing them their seventh shoe of the season against their rivals!

Movember

Movember is an annual global campaign, started in 2003, where participants grow a moustache during the month of November to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.

Movember is a cause that means a great deal to OULC because it shines a light on men's health, encouraging conversations that can too often be overlooked. By supporting Movember every year, we aim to raise awareness and remind our teammates, friends and wider community that looking after your physical and mental health is a sign of strength, not weakness.

As a club, we believe in supporting one another both on and off the pitch, and we're proud to play our part in raising funds, starting conversations and helping to make a lasting difference. Movember is a cause that all of our teams can get behind, and in doing so we hope to add to a climate of openness and mutual support in the wider Oxford sporting community, and the wider University.

Alongside mass moustache-growing, members of OULC also partook in sponsored fundraising challenges in 2026. These fun charity forfeits got the entire club involved and raised both money and awareness for this fantastic cause. This included: trainings in costume, attending lectures in full kit, 5k runs, "wine pilgrimages" and busking displays on Cornmarket Street. These highlight the fun-loving, social and community-minded nature of OULC, alongside our advocacy for serious topics.
